Our Approach to Excellence

Our long-standing success is supported by a management structure that promotes effective delivery across academics, leadership and school governance, values-based education, and the maintenance of school assets and infrastructure. Key practices include student support services, consistent monitoring, shared leadership, and structured staff development.

Digitization

Our vision is to provide a teaching and learning environment that supports holistic development and equips students with the technological skills required for 21st-century education.

Digitisation across school operations supports consistent monitoring, timely decision-making, and collaborative leadership. Data tracking allows the school to identify strengths and improvement areas and to respond proactively to student needs.

Key data systems are updated weekly and are accessible to committee leads to support coordinated action. Digital tracking supports attendance monitoring, early departures, and learning support needs, using attendance records, assessment reports, and academic profiles.

Digitisation also supports academic planning and governance, including access to class syllabi, SBMT guidelines, stock listings for physical resources, and supervisory support processes. These systems are also used to facilitate ongoing professional development for teachers and administrators.

Professional Development

  • ICT training for staff in the use of the GEC (G Suite) platform

  • Training in the use of digital student reporting tools

  • Professional learning support from Ministry of Education programmes (including TEPPD/CPDD initiatives)

  • Online learning and teaching support programmes (including Mindspark and RSC)

  • Remote teaching and leadership webinars (including British Council and related providers)

  • Learning-gaps and psychosocial support training for leaders

  • Shelter and shelter-management training for leaders (ODPM)

  • Leadership development webinars (including Dale Carnegie programmes)

  • Islamic online courses (Quran reading and memorisation, tafsir, and duas)

  • Red Cross Patrons Conference participation

  • SEA-focused workshops for Standards 4 and 5

  • Induction support for new teachers (TEPPD)

School-Based Management Team (SBMT)

To support student development and school effectiveness, a School-Based Management Team (SBMT) coordinates committee work across key areas.

Committees support proactive planning and structured responses to student needs and operational priorities.

Committees include crisis management, health and safety, teacher development, discipline, finance, social events, maintenance, physical infrastructure, resources and environment, and student services (including concessions and referrals). Each committee reports to the SBMT and works to address challenges proactively.

Using data from digital tracking systems, the SBMT establishes timelines and coordinated actions for student support and staff development. This may include guidance and special education support, teacher aide referrals, peer review and mentoring, behavioural guidance, and crisis-management strategies outlined within SBMT guidelines.

Leadership and School Governance

  • Shared leadership and instructional leadership to support teaching and learning

  • Committee-based governance (including literacy, numeracy, discipline, maintenance, health and safety, finance, and social events)

  • Professional learning communities and structured staff support

  • Clinical supervision and classroom support, including peer review

  • Clear record-keeping and appropriate financial sign-off processes

Teaching Quality: Clinical Supervision and Peer Review

TML San Fernando uses clinical supervision and structured peer review to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning. This process enables the Principal and peers to observe classroom practice, provide meaningful feedback, and support teachers in setting development goals. Peer review is developmental and is not punitive; it promotes excellence and recognises strong practice.
